Sumatra
100% Arabica + Single Origin
Our Chubute Indonesian roast is sustainably sourced from Sumatra (1450-meters above sea level). Indonesian coffee is characterized by its rustic and bold cup profile mainly produced by the wet hulled coffee processing, known locally as “Giling Basah.”
A medium to full body roast with medium acidity exhibiting a truly complex and earthy taste. The wet-hulled process gives Sumatra its world renowned earthy and syrupy flavors of lingering tobacco with a dense earthy aroma, and its hint of citrus with a chocolatey finish. Flavors to expect while enjoying your coffee? Pipe tobacco, brown sugar, pine, and citrus.
These beans are a versatile option that pair perfectly with various brewing methods. They are wonderful for drip coffee and espresso.
Want to learn more about the wet hulled process? Here’s the quick scoop: Coffee cherries are de-pulped at the farm level using hand-cranked machines and then fermented overnight to help break down all the mucilage. Beans are then quick dried, a process different to most beans due to the extremely humid climate of Indonesia. To sum it up easily, pulp and skins are removed with 50% moisture, which result in in lower acidity and rich taste you literally cannot pass up! Flavors are really unlike another coffee roast; you will experience bold and earthy flavors.
